FREE2CHOOSE: SHR LAST MILE PARTNER COORDINATION

  • 19 Sep 2024

ABOUT US

We are Shujaaz, an Emmy award-winning team of East African creatives, researchers and strategists. For over a decade, we’ve been working alongside young people to make authentic, engaging, trusted media that reflects the reality of youth culture, without filter or judgement.

Our comic books, digital dramas and social content tell stories – some real, some fictional – that start conversations and break down barriers. In them, everyday shujaaz (heroes) make and face decisions about sex, relationships, money, power and work.

Shujaaz media connects young people with the knowledge, self-belief and inspiration they need to imagine the future they want – and the support to make it happen. We call it ‘the superpower of story’, and it works. Our digital users earn $21 more a month than non-fans and they’re 43% more likely to use condoms. Urban teenage girls in our network are 2.7x less likely to get married in their teens and 2.4x more likely to choose to delay childbirth, than their peers.

Distributed and activated by our network of over 3,000 on-ground and online SuperFans, our media reaches 60-70% of 15-24-year-olds in Kenya. Founded in 2009, Shujaaz is now one of East Africa’s biggest youth brands and one of the world’s most successful media for social change programmes. In a world that too often leaves young people feeling powerless, Shujaaz media helps young people to take control.

THE BRIEF IN BRIEF

We’re seeking a highly organised consultant to support us for two days a week for ten months to implement an action research experiment linking young women from Shujaaz media to digital Sexual and Reproductive health (SRH) service providers. This experiment requires Shujaaz to have structured relationships with a number of digital service providers, also referred to as ‘last mile partners’. Your main role will be to manage these relationships with providers on behalf of Shujaaz ensuring they are providing services based on referrals, tracking service uptake from Shujaaz media, and enabling real-time referral and tracking learning and improvement, and more.

This experiment is part of a four-year Free2Choose action-research SRH programme which is funded as part of our 10-year relationship with The Gates Foundation’s Family Planning team. This digital referral experiment will run from mid-January to mid-July 2025 but requires preparation work in 2024 and a learning workshop at the end of July 2025.

We can discuss the role in more detail but the main tasks will be:

  • Ensure existing Shujaaz SRH digital service providers are briefed and engaged regarding Free2Choose and the experiment
  • Broker relationships with new SRH digital service providers on behalf of Shujaaz
  • Ensure a signed MOU is in place between Shujaaz and each service provider
  • Establish how Shujaaz media will refer young women to each digital service provider platform and the optimal way to do this balancing the best user journey whilst enabling referral tracking needs
  • Agree how Shujaaz-specific referral data will be tracked by the service provider and the required reporting approach and cadence
  • Ensure all service provider referral data is of a useful quality and is reported accurately and in a timely way to the Shujaaz Knowledge & Learning Team (K&L)
  • Facilitate Shujaaz Media Team and service providers to share real-time learning to optimise the Shujaaz media content and referral pathways to digital service provider platforms
  • Alert Shujaaz Free2Choose Programme Manager of any service provider provision disruptions, quality concerns, new service provider partner opportunities
  • Support the analysis of service provider data
  • Provide feedback to the providers and ensure providers can feedback ideas, opportunities, and concerns to Shujaaz
  • Hold weekly meetings with each service provider to manage their engagement – check numbers of referrals, provider capacity to respond, tracking and reporting of referrals, problem solving etc.
  • Provide weekly updates to the Free2Choose team and attend regular Free2Choose meetings

PROJECT SCOPE HOW WE’D LIKE TO WORK

For this project, you’ll work closely and collaboratively with representatives from our Programmes, Media and Knowledge & Learning teams. However, we’re a small team, so we’re seeking a consultant who:

  • Essential: is available 2 days a week (8 hours a day) from October 2024 until end of July 2025
  • Essential: is proactive, organised, diplomatic and is confident you can take on the responsibility for this scope of work without requiring close day-to-day supervision
  • Preferably: has some experience, or good understanding and interest in, digital health/SRH service delivery and formality with service provider tracking data

REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS

As outlined above, the experiment will run from mid-January to mid-July 2025 but requires preparation work in 2024 before the experiment start, and also learning workshop with Shujaaz and providers at the end of July 2025.

We’d love to hear back from you in whatever format you choose we’d just ask that you include:

  • A covering letter explaining your interest in the consultancy and your relevant experience, your daily consultancy rate, an indication of your availability as per the requirements above, and contact details.
  • Your CV

We’d like to receive all expressions of interest by Wednesday 25th September 2024. Please feel free to reach out with any questions in the meantime to jobs@shujaazinc.com
